Our WI’s
turn to host the Lymington Area’s Carol Concert. Hordle Parish church
was the venue and Carolyn, Brenda and Wendy from our WI, helped to make
the afternoon a great success |

Our annual
Christmas Fair was well attended by members and the public, who dug deep
into their pockets to buy gifts on offer. |

The craft
group held their annual Christmas Lunch instead of their usual get
together on a Monday, with a delicious variety of food prepared by the
members. |

A coach load
took a trip to Bath to look around the Christmas Market and the town for
the day. |

Harvest Lunch, made and served by the committee, was enjoyed by thirty
members and their guests |

president laid a poppy wreath on behalf our Institute at the Hordle

Information
about all that has happened during the last year – both events and
refurbishments – were related, and accounts agreed during our Annual
General Meeting. Some of the committee members stood down this year and
new ones were appointed, then our County advisor told us about the World
Wide conference for women held in Southampton during September. |

The Tuesday
practise payed off as at the Lymington Group Skittles match we came in
second (as opposed to last in 2007 competition) |

The Autumn meeting of the Lymington group was held at Milford, their
speaker explained how to “Keep Young and Beautiful” in 1950’s style |

The monthly
meeting was well attended and entertained by very funny anecdotes of our
guest from Bournemouth. |

A different
day out with a stop at Windsor to look around for a couple of hours and
then into London to attend the TV show hosted by Alan Titchmarsh |

Another Pub Lunch at a local pub was enjoyed by over half of the members
and guests |

The monthly
meeting with an entertaining talk about the history of knickers. |

The Village
Fete – and our stall selling our homemade cakes, scones jams and
chutneys boosted our funds for new some new crockery, |

The Hordle Community Association quiz night again with 3 W I teams
entered (Two ladies and the WISH team – W I Suffering husbands) We were
not on good form and did not finish very high on the winners board. |

An American
Supper had to transferred from our presidents garden into the hall
because of the weather, but was very enjoyable, with a number of very
delicious dishes made by the members |

We
entertained another group for a Cream Tea in the hall
after their tour around the area |

August
The cream
tea in our vice presidents garden was foiled by the weather again and we
had to resort to the W I hall for the cream scones, where we heard
details of our entries in the New Forest Show. |

30th and 31st July
was New
Forest Show time, with Hordle entering nearly 50 exhibits. Our members
achieved two seconds in their classes and six double solver and ten
silver markings. |

meeting
was held in a marquee in our hall grounds, to celebrate 90 years of
the Hampshire Federation of W I’s. We had visitors from the other WI’s
in the area and a letter from another WI member (who lives in Buckingham
Palace) to wish us well on our celebration. |

We hosted
another cream tea for a blind club from Ringwood, who had had a tour
round the Forest and into Lymington, before calling in for sandwiches
and scones. |

Lymington
Area held an “inter institute” quiz, and our team finished right in the
middle of the winners table. |

was the
Annual General Meeting for the W I in Liverpool, which our president and
treasurer attended |

2nd
June
saw us back
in our own hall and a hilarious talk by David Hawkes about his career as
a diplomat |

29th
May
at
one of our committee member’s house, our president gave a lesson in
bread making to encourage some of the newer members to have a go at
baking bread rolls for entry in the New Forest Show in July |

meeting was
held in the Hordle Pavilion, as our kitchen was being refitted. We
talked about the resolutions to be discussed at the AGM in Liverpool,
and agreed that our delegate should vote in favour of the resolutions
unless she felt that the points put forward at the AGM itself were
strong enough to vote against. We then had light-hearted poetry and
stories read by the members. |

The first W
I Quiz night had six teams enjoying a Fun Quiz, with laughter and not
seriousness the order of the night. |

April
Our Spring
Fair – A good number of visitors for our Fair enjoyed coffee and a
natter and browsing around the stalls to buy our cakes, produce, gift
and plant. Then try their luck on the tombola and our flower raffle. |

Another pub
lunch, this time is Sway at the Hare and Hounds. Nearly 30 members
enjoyed a delicious (sometimes too large) lunch. |

This months
meeting saw some wonderful slides about the restoration of Christchurch
Cathedral, given by one of the cathedral guides who had been the
unofficial photographer whilst the project had been undertaken. He had
some wonderful close ups of all the stonemasons work which has now been
hoisted up onto the cathedral stonework where the naked eye can no
longer see. |

We hosted a
Cream Tea for a group from Ringwood who had enjoyed a pleasant tour
around the New Forest before coming to our hall for refreshments |

Our third
meeting this year heard in interesting talk by our local councillor
Penny Lovelace speaking about her life in our village, both as a
councillor and hairdresser. |

Our first
pub lunch this year at The Rydal in New Milton. Over half of our
members along with some husbands and guests enjoyed a splendid ‘OAP
Special’ |

5th
February
our second
meeting of the year had the return of our ‘Flower of the Month’
competition, with the proceeds going to Naomi House charity. The speaker
– Mrs Giles from Christchurch gave a hilarious (if sometimes gruesome)
account of her experiences as a ‘casualty’ for the rescue services
training and practice exercises. |

January
our January meeting was a week late due to New Years Day, but an
informal meeting was held with the committee members mingling to try and
ask what the member wanted from their WI and what kind of events they
wanted us to organise. |
